Benzinger Street man jailed for allegedly slashing a perfume salesman

A 36-year-old Benzinger Street man remained in custody at the Erie County Holding Center Monday night on felony assault and drug charges after he allegedly slashed a perfume salesman who went to his house Sunday night to sell his girlfriend some perfume.

James M. Battles was arrested early Monday on the felony assault charge on the complaint of the perfume salesman.

When he was put into a police patrol vehicle, officers reported seeing Battles trying to destroy bags of heroin and crack cocaine and he was allegedly found to have some narcotic pills.
