Alzheimer’s in African American and Hispanic communities to be discussed

Providing programs and services to fight Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia in the African American and Hispanic communities will be the topic as the Alzheimer’s Association WNY holds a forum at 6 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Frank E. Merriweather Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave.

African Americans are almost twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s than the general population and Hispanics are about 50 percent more likely to have the disease, Alzheimer’s Association officials say, due to their high rates of hypertension and diabetes. For more informations and to reserve a spot at the forum, call 626-0600, ext. 31, or email cmccain@alz.org. Deadline for reservations is Sept. 28.
