Rain Sunday expected to taper off by kickoff

Rain is likely to continue through Sunday morning but should taper off in time for the 1 p.m. kickoff for the Buffalo Bills’ home opener at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park.

By 8 p.m. Saturday, an average of 1½ inches of rain had fallen across the area, but there was no flooding reported because the bone-dry ground easily soaked up all of that moisture, said meteorologist Bob Hamilton with the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Showers were forecast to continue late Saturday into Sunday morning, but to lighten up after 10 a.m., according to the weather service. Game day will be overcast, with a high of 64 degrees, and a slight chance of scattered showers will continue well into Sunday evening.
