JAMESTOWN – The Public Health Clinic at 110 E. Fourth St. closed on Sept. 1 – a casualty of fewer patients, higher operating costs and the opening of the Chautauqua Center, a federal clinic, at the site.
The closing was announced by the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health. Christine Schuyler, director of the county department, put a positive spin on the development.
“We are so fortunate to have a federally qualified health center in Chautauqua County,” she said. “It just makes good financial and patient-care sense to support the expansion of the Chautauqua Center. There is so much overlap in the services and the Chautauqua Center is poised to provide more holistic care to the patient that the (county) public health clinics do not provide.”
Chautauqua Center also has a clinic in Dunkirk. The Division of Public Health, meanwhile, will continue to run a clinic at 7 N. Erie St. in Mayville and, through the end of the year, will operate a clinic at 319 Central Ave., Dunkirk.
Patients who need assistance locating a new provider, scheduling appointments or wish to have records transferred to another provider should call the Division of Public Health at 1-866-604-6789.
