Authorities hope to attach an identity soon to skeletal remains removed from Lake Erie Friday off Harbour Pointe Common, near the southern end of LaSalle Park.
About noon, divers from the Police Underwater Recovery Unit were dispatched to the scene after a resident spotted the remains floating near the old sea lane ramp just south of LaSalle Park. The remains were taken to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Dennis J. Richards, Buffalo Police chief of detectives, said the examination would likely continue into Saturday.
“The remains are believed to have been in the water for some time,” Capt. Joseph Gramaglia said.
Officers also interviewed residents of nearby Waterfront Village to see if anyone had seen or heard anything suspicious.
