The Sabres are expected to add another veteran defenseman as soon as Thursday, with reports indicating free agent Cody Franson will sign a two-year contract with the team.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie said late Wednesday night the deal is for $3.3 million per season. The Buffalo News first reported in late August that the Sabres were offering a multi-year deal to Franson, who has played on one-year contracts the last three seasons with Nashville and Toronto.
Franson, 28, has been the most prominent free agent left in the market for most of the summer. He had seven goals and a career-high 36 points while spending last season between Toronto and Nashville.
Strangely enough, Franson was nearly traded from Toronto to Montreal last summer for Josh Gorges but Gorges mixed the deal and opted to accept one to Buffalo. It appears they will now be teammates.
