Niagara Falls man charged with impersonating Homeland Security officer at Fashion Outlets

TOWN OF NIAGARA – Police on Wednesday arrested a Niagara Falls man who entered the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls shortly before 5 p.m., dressed in black tactical assault gear with what appeared to be two holstered semiautomatic handguns strapped to his legs, authorities said.

Lemont A. Hughes, 45, who was charged with first-degree criminal impersonation, identified himself as a Homeland Security officer, was wearing a metal police badge clipped to his belt, and was equipped with tear gas and a portable radio, Town of Niagara police reported.

Police said Hughes’ guns were rubberized replicas of semiautomatic handguns. He was arraigned in Town of Niagara Court and remanded to Niagara County Jail in lieu of bail.
