Sen. Charles E. Schumer Thursday urged the government to continue the designation of Jericho Road Community Health Center as a federally qualified health center.
The designation, which was obtained in 2013, will allow the facility to continue to receive federal funding to its patients, many of them refugees and with low incomes.
In return for federal money and enhanced reimbursement, federally qualified health centers must meet requirements, including being located in an area identified by the government as medically underserved, offering a range of services and providing care regardless of ability to pay.
“When it comes to health care, the bottom line is that quality preventative care save tons of money over time. For many Buffalo residents, Jericho Road Community Health Center is a key source of source of affordable, quality primary care,” Schumer said in a statement.
Jericho Road Community Health Center – one of three organizations that operate federally qualified health centers in the Buffalo area – provides care at two sites on Barton and Genesee streets.
