The new T.J. Maxx store in East Aurora will open in the Aurora Village Shopping Center on Sept. 20.
The 22,000-square-foot off-price clothing store will be located in a portion of the space that once housed an Ames department store, filling a long-term vacancy in the plaza and giving the village a long-sought national clothing retailer.
The store, which will employ 60 full- and part-time workers, will be the ninth T.J. Maxx store in Western New York. The plaza’s other tenants include Tops Markets, Valu Home Center, Olympia Sports, Mighty Taco and a fitness center.
Village officials hope the new store will be a major step toward revitalizing the plaza, which also contains a defunct former Jubilee grocery store.
The store, which normally will open at 9:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sundays, will open at 8 a.m. on Sept. 20, with the first 1,000 shoppers receiving reusable shopping bags.
Store officials will make a $5,000 donation to Rural Outreach Center at the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m.
