NIAGARA FALLS – Tourism numbers for this summer are being called “record-breaking” by area officials.
The number of visitors who came to the Niagara USA Official Visitor Center at 10 Rainbow Blvd. nearly tripled last month compared to August 2014, officials announced Thursday. In total, 22,763 people came to the visitor center last month, compared to 7,679 in August of last year.
Hotel occupancy in Niagara County rose about 3 percent in July to 87.8 percent, compared with July 2014, according to data from STR, formerly Smith Travel Research.
To date for the year, hotel occupancy in the county is up 5 percent, while the average daily rate for a room – which was $145.83 in July – is up 2.3 percent for the year to date, officials said.
