Herman J. Ciminesi, farmer, public servant and longtime Brant supervisor, died Sunday in his Brant home. He was 90.
A lifelong Brant resident, Mr. Ciminesi was involved in town civic, church and charitable organizations. He served as town clerk for a year before serving six years as justice of the peace, then became supervisor, a post he held from 1965 to 1984.
As supervisor, Mr. Ciminesi oversaw several improvements, including town park upgrades and the construction of a new Highway Department garage, recreation building, swimming pool and senior citizens center.
Mr. Ciminesi also helped organize two sewer districts and a memorial park in the town center.
Before his retirement, Mr. Ciminesi served as park superintendent at Wendt Beach in Angola.
He was a fruit and vegetable grower with his brother, Vincent, from 1946 to 1966. The two oversaw operations on 176 acres of land. During that time, Mr. Ciminesi also was active in the Extension Service, Farm Bureau and Erie County Conservation Office.
Besides his work in agriculture and public service, Mr. Ciminesi was a charter member, officer and president of the Brant Volunteer Fire Company.
He also was chairman or co-chairman of the Brant Strawberry Festival for 12 years and was a member of Lake Shore Hospital’s board of directors in Irving for 14 years.
Mr. Ciminesi is survived by a son, David, and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady Catholic Church, 10708 Brant-Angola Road, Brant.
