Head-on crash pins three in cars on Cattaraugus Reservation

Mercy Flight was called in Monday morning for a serious two-car collision on the Cattaraugus Reservation south of Brant.

The head-on accident at the intersection of Route 438 and Brant Reservation Road left three victims pinned in one of the cars, which had run off the road, according to Scott Zylka, executive assistant to the Erie County sheriff. There were multiple injuries, but the extent was unknown, he said.

Authorities called for mutual aid and a medical airlift, according to Erie County FireWire, which reported the crash shortly before 10 a.m.

No further information was available as of mid-morning, but Route 438 was closed for up to four hours in both directions from Route 5 to Brant Reservation Road.

Zylka said the sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit was dispatched to investigate the cause of the crash.
