TOWN OF BETHANY — Traffic on Route 63 was diverted early Sunday for nearly 12 hours at the City of Batavia line following a tractor-trailer rollover accident near Fargo Road.
A Genesee County Sheriff’s deputy happened upon the scene moments after the accident occurred at about 2:26 a.m. An initial investigation showed that the northbound vehicle overturned after the driver failed to negotiate a curve, possibly after having fallen asleep at the wheel, according to the Sheriff’s Office. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for treatment. Vehicle and traffic citations were pending.
Traffic was diverted to allow for the removal of the truck and its contents — 40,000 pounds of bananas. The road reopened at about 3 p.m., deputies said. The accident also took down power lines in the immediate vicinity.
