Area residents with disabilities are expected to benefit from a host of transportation improvements and amenities to be funded by a new $2.7 million federal grant announced by Rep. Brian M. Higgins, D-Buffalo, and Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz.
The money will purchase 47 new vehicles bound for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority’s paratransit service as well as several social service agencies. Funding provided through the Federal Transit Administration also will purchase GPS equipment, bench and shelter improvements, program monitoring, program implementation, administrative services and expansion of existing services.
“A daily commute to work, reaching medical appointments, and staying active in the community can be a challenge without reliable means of transportation,” Higgins said. “These funds will go a long way toward ensuring all members of our community have access to transportation, a sense of independence, and a high quality of life.”
