Trooper suffers minor injuries making arrest in Lockport

LOCKPORT – An unidentified state trooper was injured when he attempted to stop a fleeing man following a domestic dispute in the Town of Lockport.

The State Police assisted the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department in a call to the scene of a domestic dispute on Aug. 28 on Robinson Road.

Ruben A. Ruiz, 26, of Lockport was spotted fleeing the scene on foot. He was taken into custody following a brief foot chase. The trooper was able to grab Ruiz, but suffered a wrist injury when Ruiz broke free and fled. He was then taken into custody by Niagara County sheriff deputies.

Ruiz was additionally charged on Thursday with second-degree assault as a result of the trooper’s injury. He was arraigned in Town of Lockport Court and remanded to Niagara County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
