Report: WR Andre Davis cut by Bills; targeted for practice squad

The Buffalo Bills have reportedly started trimming their roster, with wide receiver Andre Davis the first to go, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Wilson tweeted that Davis has been released Friday morning, but that the Bills plan to sign him to their practice squad.

Of course, another team could change those plans by claiming Davis, who has to go through waivers, and keeping him on their 53-man roster.

Davis' release isn't a shock considering the depth at receiver the Bills have. The South Florida product definitely gave the coaching staff something to think about by catching a team-high nine passes during the preseason for 68 yards, including a touchdown against Cleveland that set up the game-winning two-point conversion.

The 6-foot-1, 211-pounder finished with three catches for 24 yards in Thursday's game against Detroit, and also drew a 34-yard pass-interference penalty. If he does make it to the Bills' practice squad, the team will have nine more spots available there.

Chris Brown at buffalobills.com has a handy list of players who are eligible for the practice squad.
