Letter: Young heroes in France make Americans proud

Young heroes in France make Americans proud

When Donald Trump said all those hateful comments about undocumented immigrants, I was horrified and sickened by it. And then, when he made those comments about so-called “anchor babies” and how he would repeal the 14th Amendment, it was the two things that put him over the top as a xenophobic blowhard.

I did some checking about some Trump claims. He claimed that all Latinos like him and support him. That is wrong. Polls shows 81 percent of Hispanics either dislike him or just plain hate him. That is an astonishing number of people who will never vote for a Republican in the national elections.

Meanwhile, three young Americans touring Europe together thwarted a potential massacre, with one of them nearly having his thumb severed. On the morning of Aug. 24, these fine young men from California and Oregon received the Legion of Honor, France’s highest honor, where they stopped this madman. While Trump has displayed the ugliest in what is shown, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos have shown what is truly wonderful in Americans. Bravo to them!
