ALABAMA – A Buffalo woman died Thursday afternoon when she apparently failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a trailer being pulled by a truck at the intersection of Ledge Road and Route 77 in the Town of Alabama, Genesee County Sheriff’s office reported.
Pronounced dead at the scene was Donna L. Ray, 61, of East Morris Avenue.
Deputies said Ray was driving east on Ledge Road at 1:30 p.m. Thursday when her 2010 Mercury Marquis collided with a southbound Freightliner pulling a 53-foot box trailer loaded with 23 tons of boxed food, her car becoming lodged under the front wheels of the rear tandems of the trailer.
The truck was operated by James L. Cereghin, 55, of Defiance, Ohio.
After the initial collision, a northbound Jeep operated by Dennis R. Carroll, 64, of East Bethany, was either struck by the front of or debris from the Grand Marquis. The drivers of the truck and the Jeep were not injured, deputies said.
Ray was pronounced dead at the scene by Genesee County Coroner Karen Lang. The crash is being investigated by the Genesee sheriff’s department and the state police commercial vehicle enforcement unit.
