LEWISTON – The Western New York Land Conservancy has called a public forum for Sept. 15 to discuss plans for the Stella Niagara Preserve along with Lower Niagara River in Lewiston.

Following the purchase of the property earlier this year, the conservancy hired Darrel Morrison, a nationally known landscape architect and habitat restoration specialist, to develop a concept plan for the entire 29-acre preserve and make specific recommendations for habitat restoration and enhancement in the preserve’s meadow.

The presentation is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Lewiston Senior Center, 4361 Lower River Road, directly across from the preserve. Nancy Aten, an associate of Morrison, will present examples of previous work that the Conservancy views as models for the Stella Niagara Preserve. Also, the early results of the vision planning process will be presented, This summer, with the help of Anthony Armstrong from “Make Communities,” the Conservancy has held five focus group meetings to solicit input from stakeholders in environment and ecology, culture and history, and community and preserve use.
