Three fire companies in Erie, Niagara and Orleans counties are sharing a combined $167,340 in federal funding from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence, announced Thursday.
Clarence Fire District No. 1 , one of only two Hazardous Material Teams in northern Erie County, is getting $63,456 which it will use to purchase new Haz-Mat equipment to keep the company fully functional.
The Rapids Fire Company of Niagara County will use its $64,029 grant to upgrade the company’s Jaws-of-Life equipment to continue to cope with the changing metals the automotive industry is now using in vehicles.
The Shelby Fire Company of Orleans County will use its grant of $39,855 to purchase new auto extraction tools for dealing with automobile crashes.
