Boy dies in bicycle-vehicle collision

A boy, believed to have been about seven years old, died of injuries suffered when his bike and a vehicle collided just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Hewitt Avenue, police said.

The victim’s name was not released.

A vehicle was traveling east on Hewitt when the bicyclist apparently rode into the front of the vehicle, police accident investigators said.

The Buffalo Fire Department sent an emergency rescue unit, and the victim was taken to the Erie County Medical Center, where he later died, according to police spokesman, Michael J. DeGeorge.

No charges were placed against the driver of the vehicle, but DeGeorge said the police investigation is continuing.
