Blasdell prepares for winter with approval of signs facilitate snowplows

Although it may still feel like summer outside, the winter months were on the minds Wednesday of the Blasdell Village Board as it approved placement of “No Parking Here to Corner” signs from Nov. 1 to April 1.

The signs will be placed on Frontier Drive, 85 feet west of the northeast intersection of South Park Avenue; Orchard Avenue, 70 feet west of the northeast intersection of South Park; Miriam Avenue, 70 feet west of the northeast intersection of South Park; Madison Avenue, 55 feet west of the southeast intersection of South Park; Miller Avenue, 60 feet west of the southeast intersection of South Park; Avon Street, 90 feet west of the northeast intersection of South Park; Allen Street, 90 feet west of the northeast intersection of South Park; and Arthur Avenue, 70 feet from the northeast intersection of Labelle Avenue.

Village Administrator Janet L. Plarr told the board that it was important to add the signs because plows had difficulty turning onto the streets during the winter months, most notably during last November’s major storm that left several feet of snow in Blasdell.

“They can’t make the turn,” she said.

In other business, Plarr said that the South Park reconstruction project, which will be from the corner of Milestrip Road to the Lackawanna border, is still going to happen but that the timing is not yet known.

“It’s coming, but not very quickly,” Plarr said.

She told the board the state has not issued a check yet to Catco Construction, which was awarded the contract. As a result, the project, which was originally expected to have began by now, has been temporarily delayed.
