WHEATFIELD – Adams Fire Company of Wheatfield will receive a $144,760 federal grant to assist the company with recruitment, Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence, announced Wednesday.
The money comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s SAFER program, which stands for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response.
“This is fantastic news for our fire company. This grant will help us acquire new volunteers and meet our goal of protecting public safety,” Chief Donald Lauer said. “We are appreciative of Congressman Collins’ efforts to support our local fire companies and we look forward to working with him in the future.”
Collins said, “Many small fire companies do not have the funds for an efficient hiring process, let alone money to promote available positions in the department. This funding will help put qualified individuals in roles where they can serve Niagara County.”
