Western New York bankruptcy filings drop 8.8 percent

Bankruptcy filings in the Buffalo-Rochester market dropped 8.8 percent in August from a year ago, to 340 cases, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court said.

The number of cases filed through the first eight months of the year declined 8 percent from the same period in 2014, to 3,027, according to court data.

The decline in August followed a rare increase in filings from a year ago that was recorded in July.

The 340 cases filed in August was the lowest for any month since February.
