Man caught in Falls heroin raid pleads guilty

LOCKPORT – A man who had a half-ounce of heroin in his Niagara Falls apartment when police raided it March 25 pleaded guilty Tuesday and was admitted by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III to the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment.

Benny Gonzalez, 23, of Chilton Avenue, pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He faces a possible nine-year prison sentence if he fails in diversion, but success would mean a reduction of his charge to a misdemeanor with a nonjail sentence.
