The Western New York Ford Dealers donated 2013 Fusions to four area auto tech schools, to help high school students prepare for careers in the field.
The dealers group donated one vehicle each to Burgard High School, Erie 1 BOCES Potter Career and Technical Center in West Seneca, Erie 1 BOCES Harkness Career and Technical Center in Cheektowaga, and Erie 2 BOCES Ormsby Educational Center in East Aurora. The group also donated related technical and computer support items.
The schools were selected for the Ford Future Techs program through an application process, said Peter DeLacy, an area Ford dealer and a member of the selection committee.
“We see the need as dealers,” DeLacy said. “Our techs are approaching retirement in a lot of cases.
The program aims to generate high school students’ interest in auto tech careers, by giving them relatively new cars and up-to-date technology to work with.
