Plans approved for hotel near UB; Maple Road project heads for rezoning

A proposed hotel on Sweet Home Road got the go-ahead this week from the Amherst Planning Board.

The Planning Board on Thursday approved the site plan for a six-story, 130-room Hyatt House proposed for 2.3 acres at 1265 Sweet Home Road, located on the east side of Sweet Home, north of Maple Road, near the University at Buffalo North Campus.

In other matters, the board:

-- Recommended approval for a 23,760-square-foot, single-story commercial building on 2.36 acres at 2350 Maple Road, near the Eastview Plaza.

Benderson Development Co. is eyeing a mix of medical and professional offices, and possibly some retail or small service tenants. The proposal now heads to the Town Board, which needs to rezone the property as “neighborhood business.”

-- Tabled sketch plans for a 26-lot subdivision at 370 Casey Road.

The Amherst Town Board in February agreed to rezone the eight acres for the subdivision proposed by developer Henry Sicignano III, even though the layout of the subdivision precludes the future extension of Youngs Road, which has long been discussed as an option to help move traffic through Amherst.

The Planning Board, however, still has concerns about taking away that option and asked the developer to make room in the subdivision design for a potential road in the future, town planners said.
