Griffs hoops team will go to Vegas as part of eight-team December tourney

The Canisius men's basketball team will play in the eight-team Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic in December, tournament organizers announced Friday.

The Golden Griffins will play four games in the event. They play road games Dec. 10 at Penn State and Dec. 12 at Kent State. Then they go to Las Vegas for a game Dec. 22 against Louisiana-Monroe. On Dec. 23, Canisius will play either Hampton or Nicholls State. Both of those games will be in 9,500-seat Orleans Arena, just west of the Las Vegas Strip.

Canisius went 18-15 last season. Penn State went 18-16 and placed 13th in the Big 10 Conference. Kent State was 23-12 and was the third seed in the Mid-American Conference. Louisiana-Monroe went 24-14 and tied for second in the Sun Belt Conference. Hampton went 17-18 but made the NCAA Tournament and defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Manhattan in the first round. Nicholls State was 10-19 last season.
