Computer tablets recalled for battery overheating

California-based technology company NVIDIA has recalled its NVIDIA SHIELD tablet computers because the lithium-ion batteries inside can overheat and pose a fire hazard.

The tablets were sold via websites such as,,,, and in Game Stop stores. They were sold throughout the United States and Canada from July 2014 through July 2015 for $300 to $400.

Four incidents of overheating were reported, included two where flooring was damaged, but there were no injuries.

Consumers should stop using the tablet and contact NVIDIA for a free replacement tablet. Call 1-888-943-4196 or visit and click “NVIDIA Tablet Recall Program” at the bottom center of the page.

The affected tablet computers have eight-inch touch screens, with model numbers P1761, P1761W and P1761WX with serial numbers 0410215901781 through 0425214604018.
