Fire causes $200,000 damage to Subway, Pizza Works and nail salon in Amherst

A fire early Thursday caused an estimated $200,000 damage at several stores and restaurants in the Maple Forest Plaza, according to Amherst Fire Control.

At about 1 a.m., someone reported smoke in the building at Pizza Works, 712 Maple Road. At the same time, an automatic fire alarm came in for the same address.

Getzville Fire Chief Scott Preston, who got to the scene within three minutes, found smoke in two adjoining businesses, as well: Subway, at 704 Maple, and Model Nail Salon, at 708 Maple.

After getting inside, firefighters found a fire inside the Subway restaurant, where it was contained, officials said. The other businesses sustained smoke damage.

There was no damage to the structure, officials said.

Firefighters from Getzville, Ellicott Creek, North Bailey and Snyder responded to the alarm.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by Amherst authorities.
