Driver accused of driving 90 mph on Route 219

ASHFORD – An 18-year-old driver was arrested after fleeing deputies who tried to pull him over for speeding in the Town of Ashford, Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies reported.

Deputies initially tried to pull over a vehicle driven by Haikal G.M. Ucok, 18, of Palembang, Indonesia, for traveling 90 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone along Route 219 shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Driving north, Ucok crossed the center line numerous times and veered into the southbound lane, where there was oncoming traffic, deputies reported.

Ucok eventually pulled over approximately two miles later, deputies said. There was a 16-year-old boy in the vehicle with him.

Ucok was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, reckless driving, speed in zone, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and moving from lane unsafely. Following arraignment in Ashford Town Court, he posted an unspecified amount of bail and was released, pending another court appearance.
