BASEBALL: The WNY Knights 14U team will be holding tryouts for the 2016 baseball season on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 from 6:15-8 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. FCP teams are meant for those who are serious about developing their baseball abilities. All teams will be broken down by graduating class, except for the 13U team. 13U (as of April 30) and freshman (Class of 2019) tryouts are 4-6 p.m. while sophomore and junior teams go from 6-8 p.m. Email for more. ... Dynamites Travel Baseball 11U tryouts for the 2016 team will be held Saturday, Aug. 8 from 10-11:30 a.m. and Sunday, Aug. 16 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Hartland Town Park in Gasport. The team accepts players from any region. The 11U Dynamites will participate in the WNY Boys of Summer League, Clarence Sunday Travel League and five to seven tournaments during the season. ... Tryouts for the 13U Cayuga Heat boys baseball team will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 8 at the Cayuga 93rd Street diamonds in Niagara Falls. BASKETBALL: Medaille College’s Girls Basketball Camp for girls entering grades 3-12 will run from Aug. 10-13. Camp will be held in the Sullivan Center on the Buffalo Campus from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Camp will consist of skill enhancement drills, individual instruction, informational lectures and team play. Cost is $150 per camper. A $135 discount rate is available for teams entering five or more players. A discount rate of $125 will be applied for families entering two or more children. All campers will receive a shirt and free admission to a Medaille basketball doubleheader this season, as well as a personalized evaluation. Quintin Redfern, an assistant women’s basketball coach at Medaille College, will host basketball camps for boys and girls entering grades 3-9. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. Girls camp is Aug. 17-21 while boys camp is Aug. 24-28. HOCKEY: Hamburg Hawks Midget Tier II 15U team is in need of four players and a goalie to fill out its roster for the upcoming season. Contact Coach Mike at 949-8979 if interested. Practices begin in August.

PICKLEBALL: The Town of Hamburg Department of Youth, Recreation & Senior Services has extended its pilot Pickleball Program for persons 55 and over through August. Originally, it was to end in July. Teams play on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. at the Hamburg Recreation Center (former Nike Base). Cost is $3 per session. Call Marc Collins at 646-0665.

RUNNING: A 2.75-mile run/walk at the Chautauqua Institution is scheduled for Saturday at 8 a.m. A $25 donation includes shirt and age-group awards. Admission to the Chautauqua Institution is free with the race. Register at; questions call 357-6281.

SOCCER: The Lancaster Soccer Boosters will hold their eighth annual golf outing on Aug. 23 at Chestnut Hill CC. Registration begins at noon. Lunch will be served before the 1:30 p.m. shotgun start, with a four-man scramble format. The $90 registration fee includes golf, cart, lunch, and steak dinner, with one hour open bar. SOFTBALL: The second annual Buffalo Chicken Wing Softball Tournament will be held Saturday at Houghton and Conway Parks. Divisions are men’s and men’s 40-and-over. Tournament is double elimination; batters start with a 1-1 count. Each player receives a free ticket to the Buffalo Chicken Wing Fest held over Labor Day weekend.
