A month after their contract expired, Allegheny Technologies Inc. and the United Steelworkers union are still trying to reach a new deal.
Steelworkers members planned to rally outside ATI’s Pittsburgh headquarters on Thursday. ATI has a plant in Lockport with 44 unionized workers. The negotiations cover more than 2,000 employees at ATI plants in four states. The employees are continuing to work under the terms of their expired contract.
The company released a statement Thursday saying the union’s bargaining committee had refused to bring the company’s most recent offer, presented several days ago, to the membership for a vote. The union said the bargaining committee made that decision because the “proposal still contains so many dramatic and unnecessary cuts and because we believe that there is still work to be done at the bargaining table.”
