Woman awakened as someone tries to break-in

NEWFANE – A woman told Niagara County sheriff’s deputies that she was awakened by her dog barking and someone attempting to open the door to her apartment, at 5 a.m. Saturday in the 5900 block of East Main Street.

The victim said two unknown people, a male and a female, were on the porch with flashlights. She said the door was locked and bolted and she heard someone ripping the screen on a window to the left of the door. She said she yelled that she was on the phone with police and heard the voice of a female say, “Let’s go.” Both then ran towards the parking lot of the apartment building and drove off in a dark colored SUV.

The male was described as 5’7” tall, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The female was shorter than the male and wearing a dark shirt and light-colored pants.

Deputies reported they found the damaged screen, which appeared to have been cut.
