Cheektowaga will soon have two new indoor recreation centers.
Billy Beez, an indoor children’s playground, is expected to begin construction at Walden Galleria within two weeks. It will feature 18,000 square feet of slides, climbing tubes, trampolines and obstacle courses as well as a child-sized sports court with soccer nets and basketball hoops. It will be located on the second floor above a planned Dave & Buster’s in a 30,000-square-foot addition in the mall’s western facade near Lord & Taylor.
Billy Beez was brought to the mall by Retail Group of America, the American division of a Saudi Arabian company that owns malls in the Middle East and franchises retail brands around the world. The same group is behind Promod, a women’s fashion retailer that opened at the mall in 2013, as well as Cortefiel, a men’s and women’s clothing chain that closed at the mall in March.
Get Air, a national trampoline park, is hoping to open its doors at the Union Road Plaza within the next two weeks. The sportsplex features 35,000-square-foot of wall-to-wall trampolines and foam pits, and has a kiddie park, private party rooms, a ninja course and tightrope-like “slack lines.” It’s located at 3637 Union Road, in the southernmost corner of the plaza. Get Air has 44 locations across the country.
The plaza has struggled since Dick’s Sporting Goods left for the Walden Galleria 10 years ago, but is in the midst of a turnaround. Sonic Drive-In restaurant is destined for the same plaza and is pushing for late September opening.
