Edward M. Zimmerman of East Aurora, retired banker, law partner and former East Aurora village justice, died Saturday at Fox Run Orchard Park after a long illness. He was 79.
Born in Buffalo, he graduated from East Aurora High School in 1953. He earned a bachelor of science degree in finance from Syracuse University in 1958 and received a juris doctor degree from SUNY at Buffalo Law in 1963. He served in the Army and National Guard.
In 1963, he joined Moot & Sprague, becoming an associate in 1964 and partner in 1970.
After leaving Moot & Sprague in 1975, he was appointed vice president and resident counsel for Erie County Savings Bank, later known as Empire of America. He handled general practice of law with special emphasis in real estate and mortgage financing. He retired in 1993.
Very active in political affairs in East Aurora, Mr. Zimmerman served as village justice from 1965 to 1985 and acting village justice from 1985 to 1997. He was a longtime member of the Erie County Bar Association and an avid sportsman.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, the former Roberta “Bobbi” Luke; two daughters, Karla and Leigh; two sisters, Marlea “Marny” Podolak and Mary Louise Zimmermann; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 43 Pine St., East Aurora.
