Somerset supervisor challenger thrown off primary ballot

SOMERSET – A challenger to incumbent Republican Supervisor Daniel M. Engert has been thrown off the ballot for September’s primary.

The Niagara County Board of Elections has agreed with a challenge of the petitions of Paul Oliveira, GOP Elections Commissioner Jennifer Fronczak said Friday.

The challenges, filed by Councilman Randall J. Wayner, asserted many of the voter’s signatures didn’t count because voters gave their addresses as “Barker.” That’s the mailing address for most of Somerset, but the law requires a voter to list a town or city, and Barker is a village, Wayner asserted in his challenge.
