Good Samaritan rescues two from smoky boat in Niagara River

NIAGARA FALLS – Two people were rescued Friday from a smoking boat in the Niagara River off Cayuga Island, near the Love Canal neighborhood of Niagara Falls, according to the Buffalo Station of the U.S. Coast Guard.

The incident was initially reported as a boat fire about 5 p.m. but a Good Samaritan who came to the aid of the boaters discovered the smoke was emanating from a blown cooling system line. The craft was towed to shore by a private company, the Coast Guard said.
