Body found following search off Crystal Beach

CRYSTAL BEACH, Ont. – Seachers found the body of a man who disappeared Thursday after falling off a raft into Lake Erie, Niagara Regional Police said.

Fort Erie firefighters found the body in the water about 50 yards south of the boat ramp jetty in Crystal Beach at about 11 a.m. Friday, police said. The water was about 8 feet deep in the area.

The cause of the death was under investigation but police said they do not suspect foul play.

Authorities were notified at about 5 p.m. Thursday about the man, who had been with a group of people out on an inflatable raft in the Crystal Beach area. The man, who wasn’t wearing a life jacket, fell into the water, police were told.

The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of his family.
