The matchup for the area championship round of the A.A.A.B.A. season was set on Thursday, and both baseball teams will come in on a winning streak.
The two finalists finished sweeps of the best-of-three series. Royal Printing blanked Barrows, 4-0. In the other semifinal, Ken-Hy finished off Full Circuit, 2-0.
Cam Voss came through on the mound for Royal Printing. He allowed only two hits and striking out eight batters through six innings. Dan Dallas struck out the side in relief in the seventh inning.
On offense, Mike Gabriel drove in two runs with a key hit to provide the Royal Printing pitchers all the support they needed.
In the other semifinal clincher, Ken-Hy didn’t needed any last-minute heroics, which it received with a walk-off homer by Mark McKenna in Tuesday’s opener. McKenna this time scored a run for Ken-Hy while Paul Wujek, while Phil Wells and Brandon Kapliewicz earned the RBIs.
Nick Pullo went the distance on the mound for Ken-Hy, striking out eight.
The finals begin on Tuesday at McCarthy Park at 6 p.m. The best-of-three series will continue there on Thursday and, if necessary, on Saturday.
The winner of this series will represent Buffalo in the A.A.A.B.A. National Tournament in Johnstown, Pa. That double elimination tournament will start on Aug. 10. A team representing the Chicago area won the national title in 2014.
