Medical call in Allegany County leads to discovery of pot plants

AMITY – A 54-year-old man has been arrested in connection with marijuana plants seen growing in and around his Allegany County home by State Police responding to a medical call earlier this month.

Dwayne A. Rose, 54, of Allen, was charged Tuesday with a felony count of criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful growing of cannabis.

Troopers who responded to a medical call at Rose’s Middle Road home on July 2 noticed the plants in various stages of growth, police said. During the ensuing investigation, State Police and members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force seized 170 plants, as well as an unspecified quantity of loose or dried marijuana.

Following arraignment in Belfast Town Court, Rose was scheduled to return to court Aug. 25.
