How to celebrate National Hot Dog Day in Buffalo

Whether you call them franks, links, dogs, street meat (derogatory!), wieners or hot dogs, July 23 is National Hot Dog Day, a tribute to one of the premier summer grilling foods.

Now that we're (more or less) past #WienerGate, Western New York can set aside their differences and support a wide range of hot-dog vendors for lunch, whether they're brick-and-mortar restaurants like Dog-E-Style, food trucks like Frank Gourmet Hot Dogs, classic Buffalo staples like Ted's or a very affordable street cart.

National Hot Dog Day specials in WNY:

*National Hot Dog Day coincides with Ted's Hot Dogs' 88th birthday, so all regular hot dogs on July 23 are half-price, which means they're $1.39. For every hot dog sold, the restaurant will donate $.25 to Boys and Girls Club of America. [Update: Late to the hot-dog party? These are the closing times for the local Ted's Hot Dogs locations.]

*National chain 7-Eleven is selling its quarter-pound Big Bite hot dog for $1 at some locations. It would be wise to call ahead if you're making a special stop. Here's where you can find WNY locations.

*For National Hot Dog Day itself, Dog-E-Style is offering its House Dog with fries and a pop for $7, or substitute the pop for a beer after 2 p.m. and pay $9. Also, Rocco Termini's business has major hot dog plans laid out for Saturday, so stay tuned to read about those in this week's The 10 (or, if you're very eager, rove over to the restaurant's Facebook page.)

*Frank Gourmet Hot Dogs has no plans for specials, but below are their stops scheduled for today.
