Sam Bernstein leads 93rd NYS Men’s Amateur Championship

Sam Bernstein of Century Country Club in Purchase, the co-leader after the first round of the 93rd New York State Men’s Amateur Championship at Kaluhyat Golf Club at Turning Stone in Verona, took sole possession of first place after round two.

Bernstein shot a 3-under 69 Wednesday after a 2-under 70 Tuesday. His 139 total leads Trevor Sluman, Cameron Young and John Clare by two shots. Sluman of Rochester and representing Oak Hill Country Club had the day’s best score with a 5-under 67 after shooting a 2-over 74 Tuesday.

Billy Gaffney, who graduated from Williamsville East and is entering his senior season at Youngstown State, shot a 7-over 79 after finishing tied for third Tuesday. He is currently tied for 16th with a 150.

Daniel Yustin, who graduated Canisius and just finished his senior season at Hartford, shot an e8-over 80 to fall to a tie for 19th with a 151. Yustin was tied with Gaffney after round one. Jamie Miller of Silver Creek shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 12th with a 179.
