Buffalo State names hockey coach

Buffalo State assistant hockey coach Steve Murphy has been promoted to the head job after Nick Carriere left the program to take a coaching position with the St. John's Ice Caps of the American Hockey League.

Murphy came aboard last season following a stint as assistant coach and strength and conditioning coach with the North American Hockey League's Kenai River Brown Bears. He played Division III hockey at Curry in Massachusetts and St. Mary's in Minnesota, and junior hockey with the Toledo Ice Diggers and Wasilla Spirit of the NAHL. He's a native of Anchorage.
