Buffalo State hockey promotes Steve Murphy to interim head coach

Steve Murphy will take over the Buffalo State men's hockey program for the 2015-16 season. The school announced it was promoting the assistant coach to interim head coach.

Murphy takes over for Nick Carriere who left the Bengals after 10 seasons to accept a coaching position with the AHL St. John's Ice Caps.

Murphy joined the Buffalo State coaching staff last season helping the Bengals to their fourth-straight appearance in the SUNYAC semifinals. He has previously worked as an assistant coach and strength and conditioning coach with the Kenai River Brown Bears in the North American Hockey League. A native of Anchorage, Alaska, he played Division III hockey at Curry in Massachusetts and at St. Mary's in Minnesota.
