Wellsville airport receives funding for surface improvements

WELLSVILLE – A $45,000 federal grant will launch a project to improve runway safety at the Wellsville Municipal Airport, also known as Tarantine Field.

Funding from the Airport Improvement Program, administered by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration, was announced last week by Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.

According to Wellsville Town Supervisor Darwin I. Fanton, the grant will pay for the design and bid preparation to remove terrain obstructions to the primary and transitional surfaces for three areas on airport property. When completed, the town will apply for additional grant funds to pay for the actual removal of the obstructions.
