Traffic stops on Thruway result in charges of aggravated DWI

Two motorists were charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated following traffic stops Saturday night on the Thruway, State Police reported.

Zackery L. White, 42, of Getzville, was pulled over in Cheektowaga, shortly after 8 p.m., for multiple traffic violations. He had a blood-alcohol content of 0.20 percent, troopers said, and was charged with a felony count of aggravated DWI because of a previous conviction in 2013.

White, also cited for multiple, unspecified vehicle and traffic violations, was released to a sober third party, pending an appearance July 31 in Cheektowaga Town Court.

Almost three hours later, Joseph J. Richthammer, 35, of Elmira, was pulled over along the Niagara Thruway in the Town of Tonawanda for multiple traffic violations. Police said Richthammer had a blood-alcohol content of 0.21 percent, resulting in a misdemeanor count of aggravated DWI because his BAC exceeded 0.18 percent.

Richthammer, who also was cited for multiple, unspecified vehicle and traffic violations, also was turned over to a sober third party, pending a July 31 appearance in Tonawanda Town Court.
