Motorist charged with DWI after ending up in Machias ditch

MACHIAS – A motorist who went through a stop sign and into a ditch in the Cattaraugus County Town of Machias was charged with driving while intoxicated, according to State Police.

Troopers responding to the one-car crash late Friday night determined that Joshua J. Woolston, 32, of Lackawanna, had failed to stop for a stop sign on Maple Avenue. He drove across Route 242/Ashford Road and into a ditch.

Woolston was injured and intoxicated, troopers said. After being treated at Olean General Hospital, he was taken to the barracks to be booked.

Troopers said that during arraignment in Yorkshire Town Court, Woolston’s license was seized because he had refused to submit to a chemical test to determine his blood-alcohol content. He was released, pending an appearance in Machias Town Court.
