Man gets the tax bill, but not the prize

LOCKPORT – A Lockport man said someone used his identity to claim $19,000 in prize money from the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls.

The 24-year-old man told Niagara County sheriff’s deputies on Friday that he discovered the identity theft when he received his IRS statement in January 2015, stating that someone had made the claim in 2014. He said he was unable to make a statement earlier because he had been living in Florida for nine months.

The victim said he lost his wallet with his identification and debit card on Dec. 16, 2012, but never made a report. He said Seneca Niagara Casino has video of the person who claimed the money, but would release the information only to police.
