Letter: There’s no need to label everything as ‘historic’

There’s no need to label everything as ‘historic’

May I suggest that the media stop enabling politicians and other self-promoters from labeling everything as “historic”? It seems that I can’t get through a day without hearing about all of the historic things going on.

First off, of course, everything – including what you had for breakfast this morning – is historic. Second, so many of these things don’t seem terribly profound. Third, a good number of them that are initiatives of some sort will turn out to be bad ideas, and clearly not deserving of the positive connotations of having been labeled “historic” upon inception.

Let’s let history tell us what was historic. And good.
